The Role of Nutrition in Your Health

What is the role of nutrition in health and wellbeing? The adage “You are what you eat” holds true today more than ever. The relationship between food and a healthy body is more powerful than most people realize.

page-nutricianThese days most of us eat far too many processed and refined foods with little nutritional value. This is often referred to as the “Standard American Diet” or “SAD.” Even if you don’t eat this way, you many not be getting all the nutrients your body needs. That’s because many seemingly healthy foods today have less nutritional density due to widespread soil depletion.

You are what you eat. We are what we digest.

Many of the health issues our clients grapple with have a nutritional component and/or may be associated with nutrient deficiencies. These include fatigue, digestive distress, and hormone imbalances (including infertility, erectile dysfunction for men and menopause troubles for women). Other frequent concerns we hear from clients include ulcers, GERD, ADD and ADHD. At East West Wellness of Marin, we look at the whole picture – meaning all the body’s systems and symptoms — and determine what systems need better nourishment to allow for better function of the body as a whole.
